It’s Easter, and if you’re like me, it’s important you find ways to include your dog in literally every celebration. There are many ways I do this, and so, to help you have a dog-friendly Easter, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite ways to celebrate Easter with Caesar and Gatsby.
1. Have an Easter Egg Hunt with your dog
Dogs love to sniff around and search for things, so why not have an Easter egg hunt for your furry friend? Scent work is a sure way to help stimulate their brains, get them working, and to have a fun Easter fun with your dog! Instead of traditional plastic eggs, use dog toys or treats as the “eggs” and hide them around your yard or in your home. Your dog will have a blast using their nose to track down the goodies.
2. Make Easter-themed dog treats
There are plenty of Easter-themed dog treats available online or in pet stores. Or you can make your own! This Easter, I made Caesar and Gatsby peanut butter balls using peanut butter, rolled oats, oat flower, and carrots. Dogs also love pumpkin, sweet potato, blueberries and many other healthy treats. And, if you have Easter cookie cutters around, you can shape the treats in the form of Easter eggs, bunnies, or chicks.
3. Dress your dog up in Easter-themed costume
I finally have a dog that will fit in costumes, so this year I dressed Gatsby as a baby chick. Then, I put Caesar in his pink bandana and completed his look with some bunny years I found at the dollar store. I’m also a big fan of holiday-themed bandanas, which you can usually find at Walmart. When it comes to dressing your dog up, always make sure they are comfortable in the costume and don’t feel restricted or overheated.
4. Take a Spring-time hike
No matter the time of year, I’m always up for a hike. Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons, and taking your dog on a hike is a great way to enjoy the outdoors together. Look for local trails that are dog-friendly and take in the scenery with your furry friend. Don’t forget to bring water and snacks for both you and your dog.
5. Make DIY dog Easter baskets
Every year I make my dogs Easter baskets. You can fill them with treats, toys, and other goodies. Use it as an excuse to indulge and include things like a new leash or collar, a plush toy, or a puzzle toy to keep your pup entertained. Get creative and have fun with it!
6. Have an Easter photo shoot
Take some cute Easter-themed photos of your dog to share on social media or to keep as a memory. You can use props like Easter baskets, eggs, or bunny ears to add some festive flair to the photos.
7. Visit a dog-friendly Easter event
Every year our local Humane Society puts on an Easter Dog Bone Hunt. Hundreds of eggs are filled with treats and dozens of dogs gather at the dog park to sniff them out. Many local shelters do this and it’s an excellent way to socialize your dog and have some fun together.
Like all holidays, Easter is a great opportunity to bond with your dog and create some fun memories together. From Easter egg hunts to springtime hikes, there are plenty of ways to involve your furry friend in the festivities. So, get creative and have fun!
