Leash Your Dog – It’s the Law

Posted on January 28, 2020February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

One of the easiest and most scenic places I walk my dog locally is Hiestand Woods. It offers a nice place where we can retreat from sidewalks, busy roads, and the sounds of civilization. But there is one huge issue with Hiestand Woods – people let their dogs roam off-leash. It’s actually illegal according to…

What If Your Dog Could Live Forever?

Posted on January 24, 2020February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Recently I was standing in an isle of fiction at Barns & Noble. It was a busy Saturday and I was looking for something new. A thin, gray-haired lady, full of energy was speaking to two other young people with passion about about a book. “The dog is 250 years old,” she said. I was…

How To Enjoy National Walk Your Dog Month In January

Posted on January 17, 2020April 14, 2023 by Kirsten Barnhart

January is National Walk Your Dog Month, which may just be literally the worst month to walk your dog if you live in Ohio. Not only is it cold outside, but the days are so short. But, with the right gear, you and your dog can enjoy walks together, even in the winter. Recently, I…

How A Dog Made Me Appreciate Van Wert

Posted on January 12, 2020January 12, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Ten years ago, if you would have asked me what I loved about Van Wert I would have coldly answered “nothing” and continued by letting you know I couldn’t wait to move far, far away. Now, with the help of my trusty walking partner, Caesar, I could probably rattle off ten things instantly that I…

Memories of Breakfasts’ Past

Posted on January 8, 2020February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

This morning I decided to get up, go to the gym, come back home, and enjoy breakfast with my dogs. Typically, I’d get up and rush to work each morning. This is my last week before another 17 weeks of school, so this morning I’m enjoying a meal that brings back some of my favorite…

Purebred Does Not Mean Well Bred: Advocating For Well Bred Dogs

Posted on January 5, 2020April 14, 2023 by Kirsten Barnhart

I want to talk about an issue that many are passionate one way or another about – breeding. If you would have asked me how I felt about dogs being bred on purpose two years ago, I would have told you that I was absolutely against it. Now, I’ve changed my mind. I’m absolutely for…

The Best Time To Start Fresh In 2020 Is Now

Posted on January 1, 2020February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

It’s the first day of 2020! For many, the start of a new year (and decade!) is a symbol of a fresh start. While little has actually changed from December 31 to January 1, some need that feeling of “new” to motivate them, much like how Monday always feels “new” enough to start a workout…

How Your Dog Can Help You With Your Activity-Related New Year’s Resolution

Posted on December 29, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Today, as I took a walk with Caesar in the 60-degree misty winter, I began to think about how many miles Caesar and I have tallied up in 2019. The year is nearly over, and we still have a few days left, but I decided to add up my millage from the year so far….

About

I am Kirsten and this is a space where I share the adventures I have with my dogs.

TPAR started as a blog about my life with Caesar and Jeter. It’s developed into a place where I can share hidden gems in local communities to take your dog, advice and tips I’ve learned along the way, and a space where sometimes I just get the things in my head out.

Since I began this blog, Jeter has passed and Gatsby has entered my life. Today, I continue to tell the stories of the dogs in my life. I hope you’ll find something useful here and grow to love taking your dogs on adventures too.
