Introducing (The Great) Gatsby

Posted on August 31, 2022April 14, 2023 by Kirsten Barnhart

I’ve shared this story on my personal page, but now it’s time to share it here. Hang on until the end, because it’s a good one. On Tuesday, Aug. 9, I lost Jeter. Two days later, on Aug. 11 (my birthday), would have been our 10 years together. He was cremated that day. On Aug….

Jeter: May 2012-August 2022

Posted on August 15, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

On Aug. 9, 2022, at 9:20 AM, Jeter was put to rest after a battle with hip dysplasia that left him unable to walk or run like he so loved to do. Jeter was the best boy and I’m going to forever miss his cuddles and kisses. No one cuddled like this dog. Since the…

The “What Ifs” and the “Maybes”

Posted on August 2, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

It’s been three weeks since Jeter “went down” (that’s what I’m calling it). It’s been some of the hardest three weeks of my life. I have no idea what the right thing to do is. I don’t know if I should keep pushing him or should let him go. I see stories of how long…

Jeter’s Hip Dysplasia

Posted on July 25, 2022July 25, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

During the past two weeks I’ve had some of my highest highs and lowest lows in over a decade. Since April, Jeter has been struggling with severe hip dysplasia topped with arthritis in his spine. At the end of April, he couldn’t walk for two days, but he recovered and was running around again in…

Facebook Memories Remind Me Of How Fast Times Moves

Posted on April 1, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

Facebook memories. It’s so crazy how fast time moves. You don’t see it little by little, but when you look back on a year or two or more, you notice how much everything has changed. I see Caesar’s and Jeter’s face day by day and they always looks the same. I don’t notice the new…

#BettyWhiteChallenge Generates $4,000 For Van Wert County Humane Society Animals

Posted on January 24, 2022January 24, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

While Betty White was just 17 days short of making it to her 100th birthday, her legacy continues to live on—as the Van Wert County Humane Society found out—in a big way. Through the efforts of the #BettyWhiteChallenge, nearly $4,000 was raised for local animals in need on Jan. 17, 2022—what would have been White’s…

‘It’s Not That I Don’t Feel The Pain, It’s Just I’m Not Afraid Of Hurting Anymore’

Posted on January 20, 2022January 20, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

I ran the bathwater as hot as I could get it, even boiled some water on the stove, and poured it in. I added some elderberry bubble bath to help draw out the sickness. “Alexa, play Alt Nation on Sirius XM,” I called out. I set everything by the tub: extra towels so I could…

I Wanna Get Better

Posted on January 16, 2022January 16, 2022 by Kirsten Barnhart

Two vaccines and a booster, but it finally got me—I have COVID. Not a big surprise, though, because my mom has been sick for a few weeks, and I’ve been around her. Luckily my symptoms are mild. It started with a sore throat (that is already gone), and now I mostly have a very runny…

Eulogy For Carol Barnhart

Posted on October 31, 2021November 2, 2021 by Kirsten Barnhart

The following is a eulogy I delivered for my Grandma Barnhart at a private funeral service on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021. She died Oct. 26, 2021, of COVID. On Monday, when I last saw grandma, I had a feeling time was short—I just knew. So, I chose to read a few prayers over her. I…

Finding Hope For A Better Tomorrow

Posted on October 19, 2021October 20, 2021 by Kirsten Barnhart

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” I’m a firm believer in…

About

I am Kirsten and this is a space where I share the adventures I have with my dogs.

TPAR started as a blog about my life with Caesar and Jeter. It’s developed into a place where I can share hidden gems in local communities to take your dog, advice and tips I’ve learned along the way, and a space where sometimes I just get the things in my head out.

Since I began this blog, Jeter has passed and Gatsby has entered my life. Today, I continue to tell the stories of the dogs in my life. I hope you’ll find something useful here and grow to love taking your dogs on adventures too.
