A Trip To Fox Island County Park (Fort Wayne)

Posted on November 2, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Recently someone suggested Fox Island County Park for Caesar and I to hike. Today I woke up and decided this was the day that we would check it out. It’s around a 50 minute drive from Van Wert. Fox Island is located near the Fort Wayne Airport at 7324 Yohne Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809,…

I Am Forever Longing For Something More

Posted on November 1, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Daily, I long for a life I don’t feel like I have to escape from. I find myself constantly Googling, “How to make money from home.” It’s not that I don’t want to work, it’s that I want to work on my own terms, make money on the go, and spend time I’ll never get…

My Dog-Friendly Trip To GSMNP

Posted on October 30, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Boy, coming back from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was hard. It was such a great, peaceful trip that made it really difficult to come home. Each day, my mom, Caesar and I were able to take long hikes in the mountains. Caesar was only allowed on two trails – The Gatlinburg Trail which…

B.A.R.K. Ranger Program Teaches Dogs And Owners To Respect Parks

Posted on October 27, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

On our trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Caesar became a B.A.R.K. Ranger. The program, offered by several National Parks, is brand new to GSMNP; Caesar was one of the first 13 dogs to be “sworn in.” B.A.R.K. Rangers promise to follow a code of ethics in the park. B.A.R.K. stands for: Bag…

What To Pack When Taking Your Dog On A Hiking Trip

Posted on October 24, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Caesar and I are preparing to head for Tennessee to hike in the Great Smoky Mountains. While we’ve done several hiking trips around Ohio, this will be our longest trip so far. Through trial and error, I’ve learned that there are some must-haves when taking your dog on an extended hiking trip. 1. Water, Water,…

How To Manage Your Dog’s Fall allergies

Posted on October 21, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Fall allergy season is in full bloom. As the crops come off, dust (probably full of pesticides) blow right into my house and all over my car and yard. Not to mention the heightened amount of ragweed! My eyes get watery, and I tear right through a box of Puffs, but I’m not the only…

Remember To Put Your Dreams And Goals First – No One Else Will

Posted on October 14, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

This week Caesar gave me a scare with his health. Words like “cancer” and “kidney failure” were mentioned, and my mind immediately thought about my dog dying way before I was prepared. As the weekend neared, Caesar’s antibiotics began to really kick in and his health improved greatly. But as the fear of my dog…

What You Need To Know When You Opt For A “Free” Dog

Posted on October 8, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

The main thing you need to know before choosing to take a “free” dog is that there is no such thing as a free dog. Read that again. In 2011, I brought home Caesar. He was from a littler of German Shepherd mixes on an Amish Farm. He was $60 on the first day. In…

‘Joker’ Opens A Dialogue About Mental Health

Posted on October 7, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

Occasionally on this blog, I will write about things that may have nothing to do with my dogs. Instead, I may write about topics that are important to me such as music and mental health; this is where the “relax” part of the website name comes in, because I believe both of those things are…

Why Worry? The Art Of Being More Mindful

Posted on October 1, 2019February 16, 2020 by Kirsten Barnhart

“Relax.” That’s something I’m not very good at. Over the weekend, I had a lot on my “To-Do List.” Do you ever have so much to do that you decide to do nothing at all because it’s all so overwhelming? That’s sorta how my weekend went. I kept putting things off and the next thing…

About

I am Kirsten and this is a space where I share the adventures I have with my dogs.

TPAR started as a blog about my life with Caesar and Jeter. It’s developed into a place where I can share hidden gems in local communities to take your dog, advice and tips I’ve learned along the way, and a space where sometimes I just get the things in my head out.

Since I began this blog, Jeter has passed and Gatsby has entered my life. Today, I continue to tell the stories of the dogs in my life. I hope you’ll find something useful here and grow to love taking your dogs on adventures too.
